Portugal vs Germany Euro 2008 Cup Soccer Quarter-finals Video

Watch Germany 3-2 Portugal highlights from the 2008 Euro in this video. Who would have thought this result would be reality. I certainly didn’t. Expected Portugal to lose in the semis or finals (to Spain) but certainly not to Germany. With 26 minutes gone and two German goals in (Schweinsteiger and Klose: from a Schweinsteiger free kick), Portugal appeared shaky everytime the Germans rolled into their half. They came close on a couple of occasions before Nuno Gomes sent in a Lehmann block off a Ronaldo attempt. The 2nd half was tense football with Portugal launching wave after wave of attack until Ballack in a controversial goal that saw him push Ferreira headed one in to make it 3-1 (off a Schweinsteiger free kick again). Postiga got Portugal back in by the 87th minute which was primarily the reward for getting sub Nani into the game. Basically Portugal lost the match for three reasons:
In the 1st half they seemed to believe they were going to get a goal any minute and cared a damn about their defence.
Too many long range glory efforts in the 2nd half – look out in the video for Scolari mockingly weeping after one such effort.
Schweinsteiger was brilliant.
For the Germans, Podolski almost pulled off a long range sensational goal in the 2nd half. Ronaldo had some fantastic moments, including a late roll around in pain after a challenge, but Nani seemed the one man in the 2nd half capable of doing something to get them out of the mess.
