Barcelona 2-1 Shakhtar Donetsk Highlights Goals UEFA Champions League Soccer

Watch Lionel Messi prove the relevance of the word Champions in this tournament with two late goals during Barca vs Shakhtar in the UEFA Champions League Group Stage match. The Shakhtar goal happened right at the end of the 1st half through Ilsinho. A long ball resulting in a goal almost out of nowhere, with an embarrassed Puyol left in its wake. The game was on-off with plenty of scrappy moments and two more goals also materialising out of nowhere. Messi came on in the 60th minute and soon enough created a glorious opportunity for Eto’o who hesitated long enough to fall over himself. The controversial moment of the match however came in the 87th minute after a horrific spill by Shakhtar goalie Pyatov was pounced on by Messi. Shakhtar players lost their heads claiming Barcelona should have put the ball out which really doesn’t hold much credence. As evidenced in the video, Shakhtar put the ball out following a minor injury to one of their players while Barca were on the attack. With the player back on his feet and play resuming there was no justification in their claims that Barca were unsporting in not putting the ball out. Into the 4th minute of injury time, Shakhtar made a substitution with Duljaj sauntering away slowly (even stopping to shake hands with the ref) while the clock wound its way down – but not enough because Messi produced a moment of brilliance (with a lovely ball by Xavi) to snatch the game away in the dying seconds of the 4th minute of injury time.
